Girls Ride The Wake in Nor Cal

Picture this: two full days of non-stop wakeboarding with all of your good friends, getting pointers from a handful of well-known pros and jibbing some custom made rails. Sound familiar?  Think again...

On July 25th Camp Far West Lake in Northern California hosted the first all girls wake event on the west coast called "Girls Ride the Wake."  30 girls came from all over Nor Cal to see what this event was all about.  The girls arrived bright and early Saturday morning to register and sign up for clinics provided for all levels of wakeboarding and wakeskating.  Girls Ride the Wake had three boats full of girls getting lessons from pro wakeboarders such as Raequel and Shawna Hoffman, Shelby Kantar, Danni Petraitis, and Evelyn Zerr.

First Hand with Lizzie Williams As She Snags First Place at Nationals

Starting my trip to OKC would turn out to be a journey. Andrew (my boyfriend) woke up early to make the 45 minute drive from Santa Clara to San Francisco with me. We arrived at the huge terminal and said our quick goodbyes. Now previously I had called the airlines and asked what the length limit was for carry on packages. It was 45 inches, I thought I was in the clear to go ahead and carry on my wakeskate, not quite. A security checkpoint man stopped me and asked me to go ahead and check my bag in. We got into a small argument and in the end I checked my bag in.

Spanky Beaver Stop 2 Vallejo

Nor Cal riders Josh Wilson, Jeff Pearsall, Kathryn Medina, Brodie Chaboya, Al Marchiniak, Squirrel and Becky Carter kept the audience happy with some stylish slidin.  The winches were running all day long. There were three rails side by side. There was a flat bar, an A frame and giant up flat with a slight down angle. The rails were well built and a perfect playground for the riders.

Norcal Team Hyperlite rider Chris Dykmans makes the cut on the PWT.

Chris Dykmans hit it hard over this last winter/spring practicing his tour pass/tricks 3 to 4 days a week and it paid off when he advanced to the 1/4 finals (top 20 out of 57 riders) at the second Protour stop in Wisconsin. The points he earned that day left him tied at 31st overall and he made the cut, which is capped at the top 40 riders after the
first 2 events, for the remaining 3 stops.

Hard to say without cracking up a little, huh?  This is the event that brings smiles to every one (except maybe Lizzie Williams this year, and Shane Wright last year).  It's so hard to keep a straight face when your talking to someone about the event, and they ask what the name of the event is and you HAVE TO say 'Spanky Beaver's wakeboarding Jib Jam'.

Nor Cal Mastercraft and Wakeroots Ride Shop Super Star 2009 Sale

I had a chance over the weekend to check out one or Nor Cal's coolest shops during their annual sale. Nor Cal Mastercraft in Dublin houses a hidden gem overlooked by the general public. Wakeroots board shop resides inside the gates of Nor Cal Mastercraft and is loaded to the brim with the latest gear from Hyperlite, Byerly, CWB, Liquid Force, and just about every other product in the industry. They also carry the latest ski equipment and boating necessities. Over the weekend Wakeroots put on a giant sale complete with Wakeboarding’s top vendors, team riders, BBQ's and local water sports foundations. Make sure to check out the pictures I got while I was there to see the shop and the sale in action.

Nor Cal Hyperlite in the Philippines

The 2009 WWA World Championships of wakeboarding took place at CWC wakeboarding complex, just outside of Naga City in the Philippines. Two NorCal Hyperlite team riders traveled to the other side of the world to enjoy and compete. Riley Bangerter & me Al Marchiniak took the long journey (almost 15 hours in plane rides) to find out just what this whole "CWC" thing was all about. We were accompanied by Riley's wife, Cassie, and our good friend Dr. Phil Caruso (also know as DP or Doctor Phil).

I was fortunate enough to go down to the Arizona Boat Show this past January and it was a great time. The rail set up was a lot of fun and everyone was riding really well. There were about 3-4 shows a day from Wednesday through Sunday and we had a great crowd each and every time. Here are some photos from the rail jam.

July 19th and 20th! $1000 is up for grabs!

Summer is definitely here and Northern California is expected to have a couple days over 100 degrees this week. This means the water temps are rising and Memorial Day will be a blast. Here’s a recap of what’s gone down and what’s going to go down in the near future.

Spring Ride

Spring Ride went down and thanks to you Hyperlite had a strong presence at an event that historically has been ruled by CWB.  Shaun Murray made a guest appearance which definitely made an impact, he stayed in the booth for most of the event and his focus was promoting Hyperlite. Shaun even took it upon himself to go up and down the dock and apply Hyperlite stickers to people’s boats, Sick!

At the 1st event of the season and Team Hyperlite was in full effect.  Congrats to Open Division Riders; Brady Sammons (2nd) & Chris Dykmans (5th), Advanced Division Rider Colin Wirth (1st) and Intermediate Division Rider Natalie Conner (1st).

Brady Sammons was asked about the event and he said it was a great time and that Hyperlite was in full force.  Brady had only ridden twice this season after coming off a long and drawn out ankle injury. He wasn’t expecting much from himself but ended up without a crash and was able to pull off some of his bigger moves.  Great to have you back on the water Brady.
